Whether you have a few hours or a full weekend, here's how to make the most of the trail.
Perfect for a Saturday afternoon. Start at Banner Elk Winery, then drive 15 min to Grandfather Vineyard, and finish at Eagles Nest for sunset views.

Hit 4–5 wineries in one epic day. Start in West Jefferson at Old Barn Winery → drive through Laurel Springs to Thistle Meadow → head to Banner Elk for Banner Elk Winery and Grandfather Vineyard → end at Eagles Nest for sunset.
Lunch stop: Downtown Blowing Rock has excellent farm-to-table restaurants between tastings.
Day 1 (Saturday): Banner Elk area — Banner Elk Winery, Grandfather Vineyard, Eagles Nest, Linville Falls. Stay overnight in Banner Elk or Blowing Rock.
Day 2 (Sunday): West Jefferson area — Old Barn Winery, Thistle Meadow, then finish at Mill Camp Wines & Ciders in Boone. End with dinner in downtown Boone.
Pro tip: Take the Vine Line both days and skip the driving entirely.
April–May. Wildflowers, mild temps, fewer crowds. Wineries open for the season with new releases.
June–August. Peak season. Live music weekends, outdoor tastings, long days. 70–80°F at elevation — escape the heat.
September–November. Harvest season. Fall foliage, crush festivals, barrel tastings. The most popular time — book early.
December–March. Cozy tasting rooms, holiday wines, smaller crowds. Some wineries have limited winter hours — call ahead.
The trail is centered around Banner Elk and West Jefferson, NC — about 2 hours from Charlotte, 1.5 hours from Winston-Salem, and 1.5 hours from Asheville. Many wineries are near the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Most wineries charge $8–15 for a tasting flight. It's okay to pour out wine you don't finish. Ask questions — the winemakers love to share their craft.
Charlotte (CLT) is the closest major airport. Take the Blue Ridge Airport Shuttle from CLT to the mountains — daily service, $75–98/seat.
